What to Do If You Get a Flat Tire on the Highway

You’re cruising down the highway when suddenly — thump-thump-thump. Flat tire. Don’t panic! Here’s your game plan to handle it safely.

First Things First: Stay Calm and Get Safe 🛑

If you feel your tire go flat, don’t slam on the brakes. Ease off the gas, grip the steering wheel firmly, and turn on your hazard lights. Look for a safe spot to pull over — ideally a wide shoulder, rest area, or exit ramp. Get as far from traffic as possible.

Assess the Situation 🔍

Once you’re safely stopped, take a breath and check out the damage. Is it just low, or completely flat? More importantly, are you in a safe location to change it yourself?

⚠️ Don’t attempt a tire change if:

- You’re on a narrow shoulder with fast-moving traffic

- It’s dark or visibility is poor

- You’re on a curve or hill where drivers can’t see you easily

In these cases, call for roadside assistance. It’s not worth the risk.

If You’re Changing It Yourself 🔧

Make sure your car is in park (or in gear for manual transmissions), set the parking brake, then get to work with your spare—but only if you feel confident and safe doing so.

The Bottom Line ✅

Your safety is more important than saving time or money. When in doubt, call a professional. And once you’re back on the road? Swing by the shop so we can get you a proper replacement and make sure everything’s good to go! 👍
